Fisher Pond

In 1998 the Land Trust was still young – not yet a trusted Island institution. And yet Bill Fisher had created a 90-acre nature preserve. So what next?

Some say it took 100 cups of tea.

Board President Laura Wishik engineered a deal whereby the State would match the value of the gift -- $1.2 million. It remains one of the largest gifts the Land Trust has ever received.

Continuing efforts since then have increased this preserve to 150 acres and extended the beautiful, well-used Fisher Pond Trail in both directions, toward Agren Park and all the way to Cove Rd across from the Vashon airport.

Fisher Pond is Vashon’s largest open-water pond and one of the top island birding spots. The Pond also forms the headwaters of Shinglemill Creek.
