Elena Camarillo
Elena grew up in a farming community in Baja California Sur, Mexico. Since graduating from Monterrey Tech and immigrating to the United States, she has worked in high tech, raised two daughters, pursued an interest in creative writing, and served as a community organizer for the Latino Community in the Seattle area.
She attended Climate Farm School in 2022. She completed a practicum in Sustainable Agriculture from Viva Farms in the fall of 2023. In the summer of 2024, she moved to Vashon and shortly thereafter joined the Matsuda Farm team.
Her relationship with nature was marked by growing up in the desert: water is scarce and precious. The farmer cannot control the rain, or the sun, or the heat. She must work in collaboration with the land.
Elena is honored to be a steward of the beautiful historic Matsuda Farm. She is inspired by its community. By practicing Regenerative Agriculture, she aims to restore the soil, capture carbon, foster biodiversity, and produce nutritious food for the island.
