Nik Ormseth

Nik grew up in Portland and spent most of 15 years in the Bay Area before moving to Vashon in 2003.  He and his wife, Bella, have one child, Calliope, who is a junior at VHS.  Nik has worked mostly in the technology sector, his professional skills are in data, software, and program management.

Living on the island for 21 years has made Nik much more attuned to the rhythms and changes in our environment.  Vashon is a unique place, and as residents, we have a responsibility to it.  To Nik, that means not just preserving and restoring the ecology but also paying attention to the Island’s livability for all its residents.  That harmonizing between the needs of humans and the environment is, of course, the essence of sustainability.

His on-island interests include growing apples & making cider.  A sailor at heart and in his spare time, he is particularly interested in the marine ecosystem on and around the island.
